Best Theme Park for Roller Coasters By The Numbers
When looking for the parks with the most roller coasters in Roller Coaster DataBase, there are some clear winners for roller coaster enthusiasts. Note that it’s possible these numbers have changed since the writing of this post.

Six Flags Magic Mountain – 19 Roller Coasters
Nicknamed the “Thrill Ride Capital of the World”, with a staggering 19 roller coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California is a must-visit for coaster fanatics.
From the gut-wrenching inversions of Twisted Colossus, a hybrid coaster that features dueling tracks and high-speed inversions, to the record-breaking high-speed thrills of Superman: Escape from Krypton, one of the fastest roller coasters, launching riders over 100 mph with a 400+ foot drop, Six Flags Magic Mountain caters to every kind of coaster enthusiast.
Fun Fact: Superman – Escape From Krypton was the world’s first roller coaster to go at least 100 mph and also reach heights over 400 feet.
Energylandia – 19 Roller Coasters
We don’t need to stick with theme parks only located in the United States for this guide. Poland enters with Energylandia’s 17 offerings, including Hyperion, one of the tallest and fastest coasters on the continent.
Canada’s Wonderland – 18 Roller Coasters
Located in Ontario, Canada, this massive theme park boasts 18 roller coasters of varying styles and sizes. One of their newest, Yukon Striker, happens to be the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster, dropping a massive 245 feet and reaching speeds of over 80mph.

Cedar Point – 17 Roller Coasters
Known as “America’s Roller Coast”, this Ohio-based theme park is one of the world’s most famous, with equally famous roller coasters to boot. Legendary roller coasters like the first hyper coaster, Magnum XL-200, and the first giga coaster, Millennium Force, can be found here.
Other popular coasters include Steel Vengeance, a hyper-hybrid coaster that offers the most airtime of any coaster in the world, and Maverick, a launched coaster with beyond-vertical drops and rapid twists.
Fun Fact: Cedar Point has been credited with started the coaster boom in 1989 with Magnum XL-200, the world’s first hyper coaster (a roller coaster standing or having a drop between 200-299 feet). After other parks saw that monster in the sky, they wanted one of their own.
Best Theme Park for Roller Coasters By Awards
There are many notable roller coasters in the world, and not all of them can fit in the parks we listed above. Using the most recent data from the Amusement Today Golden Ticket Awards and CoasterBot’s Vote Coasters Poll, we analyzed which parks had the most appearances in the lists of top 50 roller coasters.
Cedar Point
Not only does Cedar Point have one of the largest collections of roller coasters on the planet, they also have the best. Roller coasters like Steel Vengence, Millennium Force, and Maverick are frequently cited as some of the best roller coasters in the world.
Expert Tip: These three roller coasters in particular are very famous, and therefore can get lengthy lines. They’re all fairly close to each other at the back of the park, so consider knocking these out first on your next Cedar Point visit.

Kennywood Park
Sometimes, you just can’t beat the classics. Kennywood is no stranger to recognition, with all of its wooden roller coasters ranked among the best as well as the iconic Phantom’s Revenge steel roller coaster.

Kings Island
One of the biggest names in the industry, Ohio-based theme park Kings Island is well-known for roller coasters like The Beast, the longest wooden coaster in the world, Mystic Timbers, a high-speed wooden coaster with an eerie ending, and Diamondback, a 200-foot hyper coaster with some of the best airtime moments.
It also wouldn’t be right for me to mention Kings Island without mentioning one of my personal favorite coasters there: Invertigo.
Hersheypark
The most-visited park in Pennsylvania, and apparently for good reason. Their Lightning Racer, a great wooden roller coaster, and both Wildcat’s Revenge and SkyRush roller coasters for being airtime and thrill machines.
Expert Tip: Based on capacity and how slow the lines move, when you visit Hersheypark, try hitting up Fahrenheit and Laff Trakk first. Then walk on over to Wildcat’s Revenge and Lightning Racer in the nearby vicinity.
Choosing Your Roller Coaster Style
There’s all kinds of roller coasters out there. You may love some while hating others. While the best theme parks for roller coasters tend to have more variety, you can always check out a tool like Roller Coaster DataBase to see if the roller coasters there are more your style. You can look to see if a park has more wooden coasters, if you prefer (I recommend Kennywood for those). Or if you love launched coasters, you can search for parks with those as well (I recommend Busch Gardens Williamsburg for that).
Here’s some recommendations based on what you love on roller coasters:
- Airtime Junkies – Cedar Point (Steel Vengeance, Magnum XL-200)
- Inversion Lovers – Six Flags Magic Mountain (X2, Batman: The Ride, Viper, Twisted Colossus)
- Theming Fans – Universal Islands of Adventure (VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s)
- Wooden Coaster Enthusiasts – Kennywood, Dollywood, Hersheypark
Conquering Your Fear of Roller Coasters
If you’re a bit nervous, many of these parks offer milder experience that let you work up to the bigger, more intense ones. Remember, it’s perfectly okay to take breaks, and don’t feel pressured to ride something you’re not comfortable with. Roller coasters can be a great way to relieve stress and seek out safe thrills, but the truth of the matter is they aren’t for everyone.
If you aren’t ready for the most intense roller coasters, try some milder ones:
- Six Flags Magic Mountain – Canyon Blaster, Gold Rusher
- Cedar Point – Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Iron Dragon
- Kennywood Park – Lil’ Phantom, Racer
- Kings Island – Woodstock Express
- Hersheypark – Laff Trakk

There Can Be More To Parks Than Coasters

I know, I know. If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, the thought of going somewhere other than a coaster haven can seem lackluster. But there are many parks that focus on other things besides having the biggest and baddest coasters around. In fact, a good theme park offers a complete entertainment package. Here’s what else to consider:
- Thrilling Rides Beyond Coasters: Many parks boast other adrenaline-pumping attractions like giant swinging pendulums, high-speed water rides, and heart-stopping drop towers.
- Family-Friendly Fun: Don’t forget about the little ones (or those who prefer a milder experience). Parks usually have dedicated areas with tamer rides, shows, and interactive experiences. Walt Disney World Resort is notorious for this.
- Live Shows and Entertainment: Catch captivating performances, witness impressive stunts, or participate in interactive shows for a break between the thrills. Dollywood and Six Flags Fiesta Texas tend to win awards for their entertainment.
- Theming and Atmosphere: Immerse yourself in the park’s unique theme. Whether it’s a movie franchise, historical period, or fantastical world, the park’s design and decorations can add another layer of enjoyment. Universal Orlando Resort is where I love to go for immersive theming and great rides.
- Food and Drinks: Refuel with delicious park fare. From classic theme park snacks like funnel cakes and popcorn to diverse food options catering to different dietary needs, most parks offer a variety to satisfy your taste buds. When it comes to french fries, Kennywood’s Potato Patch fries can’t be beat.
