Is A Disney Dining Plan Worth It?

One of the big questions vacationers have when planning their next Disney World vacation – is a Disney Dining Plan worth it?

The answer depends on a lot of different factors, and this guide should help determine if a Disney Dining Plan is best for you and the people you’re traveling with.

As an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner who’s been trained on the ins and outs of Disney Dining Plans, I’m going to explain what the Disney Dining Plans are, how much they cost, who they work best for, and whether they makes sense for your Disney vacation.

Plus, I’ll share expert tips to get the best value and how I can help you navigate your next Disney vacation, including whether or not to purchase a Disney Dining Plan, without all the stress.

What Are Disney Dining Plans?

Disney Dining Plans (DDPs) are a prepaid meal plan you can add to your Walt Disney World vacation package if you’re staying at a Disney resort hotel, like Disney’s All-Star Sports, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, or Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter.

It lets you pay for your meals ahead of time and use meal credits during your trip at participating restaurants across the parks, hotel resorts, and Disney Springs.

As of 2025, there are two options available:

What Is the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan?

The Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan is perfect if you prefer to grab meals on the go without worrying about dining reservations. You’ll get:

  • 2 quick-service meals per night of stay
  • 1 snack or non-alcoholic beverage per night of stay
  • 1 resort refillable drink mug, eligible for refills from self-service beverage islands at any Disney resort hotel quick-service location

Quick-Service meals typically include an entrée and a non-alcoholic beverage (or alcoholic beverage for guests 21 and over).

Use your quick service meal credits at places like Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Magic Kingdom or Satu’li Canteen in Disney’s Animal Kingdom (probably my favorite quick-service dining location on property).

What Is the Disney Dining Plan?

The standard Disney Dining Plan (often referred to as the “regular” Dining Plan or Table Service Dining Plan) offers a mix of quick-service and table service options, providing a more comprehensive dining experience. It includes:

  • 1 quick-service meal per night of stay
  • 1 table-service meal per night of stay
  • 1 snack or non-alcoholic beverage per night of stay
  • 1 Resort refillable drink mug, eligible for refills from self-service beverage islands at any Disney resort hotel quick-service location

Table Service meals typically include an entrée, a dessert (for lunch and dinner), and a non-alcoholic beverage (or alcoholic beverage for guests 21 and over).

Table-Service credits can be used at restaurants like Biergarten in EPCOT or Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

How Much Do Disney Dining Plans Cost?

The cost of Disney Dining Plans depend on the age of the guest and when they’re visiting.

For vacations in 2025:

PlanAdult (Ages 10+)Child (Ages 3-9)
Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan$59.14 per person, per night$24.71 per person, per night
Disney Dining Plan$97.79 per person, per night$30.66 per person, per night

For vacations in 2026:

PlanAdult (Ages 10+)Child (Ages 3-9)
Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan$60.47 per person, per night$26.16 per person, per night
Disney Dining Plan$98.59 per person, per night$31.94 per person, per night

Note that this pricing does not include gratuity and tips. For table service restaurants, it’s customary in the United States to tip your wait staff, so keep that added cost in mind.

How Much Should I Budget for Food at Disney World?

Based on my personal experience, I usually tell people to set aside $100 per person per day for their Disney food budget.

That’s going to vary based on your personal dining preferences, how many alcoholic drinks you’re purchasing, etc. However, I personally find that $100 a day out of pocket usually works for me most days.

What Are the Pros of a Disney Dining Plan?

  • Convenience and Less Stress: With your meals and snacks largely paid for in advance, you can enjoy your vacation without constantly pulling out your wallet or worrying about the bill at each meal. This can significantly reduce stress, especially for large groups or families.
  • Budgeting: The DDP helps you stick to a set Disney dining budget. You know exactly how much your food will cost upfront, making overall trip planning easier.
  • Potential Bulk Discounts: A DDP can sometimes offer a slight “bulk discount” compared to paying for each meal individually, particularly if you strategically select pricier menu items or more expensive experiences like character dining or table service meals.
  • Alcoholic Beverages Included: For guests 21 and older, most quick-service and table service meals on the DDP include a standard alcoholic beverage (beer, wine, or a mixed drink), which can add up if you’re planning on enjoying a few adult beverages during your trip.
  • Flexible Dining Options: You can use your table service credits for a wide array of dining experiences, including popular character meals, elaborate buffet meals, and even Fantasmic! dining packages, which can save you money on both food and a reserved viewing spot for the show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

What Are the Cons of a Disney Dining Plan?

  • Not Always a Money-Saver: If you’re not maximizing credits with pricier meals or drinks, you might overspend when paying for a Dining Plan vs. paying out of pocket
  • Tips and Gratuities Are Extra: Tips at table service restaurants are not included with any DDP.
  • Some Restaurants and Offerings Are Excluded: Some higher-priced or specialty items might require an additional charge or not be covered by a credit. A few signature dining experiences or specific kiosks might not participate in the DDP, or may require two table service credits.
  • Requires Advanced Planning: To get the most out of your table service credits, especially for popular restaurants or character dining, you’ll need to make Disney dining reservations well in advance (up to 60 days before your trip begins). Or let your travel agent handle it for you! This can sometimes feel restrictive for those who prefer grabbing their food on the go.
  • Unused Credits = Lost Money: If you don’t use all your credits, you essentially overpaid for your Disney Dining Plan. This is a common issue for guests who underestimate how much they’ll eat or how much time they’ll spend dining.

Who Benefits From Disney Dining Plans?

  1. Families who eat at sit-down, table service restaurants regularly
  2. Families with kids or large groups
  3. Adults who like alcohol with their meals
  4. People who like to plan their meals in advance
  5. People who enjoy character meals, buffets, or special dining packages
  6. People who plan on spending enough time at their Disney resort hotel to want free refills on drinks there

Who Doesn’t Benefit From Disney Dining Plans?

  1. Light eaters
  2. People on a tight budget
  3. People who want to grab food as they see it and not deal with reservations
  4. Guests with strict dietary restrictions that need to eat at certain places or eat certain things
  5. Picky eaters
  6. People who prefer eating outside of Disney World

How To Get the Most From Disney Dining Plans

  • Select pricier items: Choose entrées, desserts, and drinks that have higher cash values.
  • Go with specialty drinks or alcohol: Compared to soda, this will ensure you get a better value for your DDP.
  • Consider character meals or Fantasmic! dining packages: These experiences are often high-value uses of your Table Service credits due to their higher out-of-pocket cost.
  • Don’t overlook snacks: Dining Plan snack credits can work on things like Dole Whip, pretzels, or treats at EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival.

How To Plan With Disney Dining Plans

You can use your friendly neighborhood travel agent to help make sure you’ve got all your dining reservations squared away before your trip starts!

Dining reservations open up 60 days before the first day of your trip, and some locations will see their reservations gone in minutes, so it’s important to be ready and know what you want ahead of time to snag those reservations.

You’ll also want to try and spread your credits out throughout your trip so you can make sure you’re using your Disney Dining Plans to its full potential.

What Are The Best Restaurants for Disney Dining Plan Users?

For quick-service restaurants, I recommend:

  • Aloha Isle – Magic Kingdom
  • Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café – Magic Kingdom
  • Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe – EPCOT
  • Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe – Magic Kingdom
  • Ronto Roasters – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Satu’li Canteen – Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Sunshine Tree Terrace – Magic Kingdom
  • Yorkshire County Fish Shop – EPCOT

For table service restaurants, I recommend:

  • 50s Prime Time Café – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen – Magic Kingdom
  • Liberty Tree Tavern – Magic Kingdom
  • Roundup Rodeo BBQ – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I also recommend character dining if you’re interested in those and have a Disney Dining Plan.

There are also many great restaurant options at Disney’s resort hotels and Disney Springs to check out as well!

Disney Dining Plan Reviews from Real Guests

Was a peace of mind thing for me and my wife when we went. Had it paid off well in advance. So you “feel” like your saving money cause your not consistently worried about what’s on your card or in your account.

-NakedGoose, Reddit

It’s never been worth it for me unless I got it for “free” as part of a package. I’ve always thought of it as more a way to make a trip more “all-inclusive”, not necessarily save money. In many cases people will save money NOT using the dining plan.

-Substantial-Drop-836, Reddit

You can MAKE it worth it, but a lot of people don’t. Me though I make sure I am using EVERY meal credit and to it’s maximum potential.

-Moonbunnychan, Reddit

Pros: tried so many things/ restaurants I wouldn’t have

Cons: did the deluxe and it was wayyyyy too much food. Tapped out by the end and used out last few meals to pay for other families randomly.

-HarryHatesSalmon, Reddit

We always buy the dinning plan. It keeps our trip stress and hassle free. Everyone loves just using their magic band to pay for snacks.
