Universal Orlando Resort Transportation: On-Site Options
Universal Orlando makes getting around their property pretty easy, but like anything, you need to know the ins and outs to make the most of it. If you’re staying on-site at a Universal hotel, congratulations! You’re already ahead of the game because some of the best Universal Orlando Resort transportation options are included with their own resorts.
Universal Orlando Shuttle Buses
The easiest option for most resort guests is Universal’s complimentary shuttle bus service. These buses run between Universal’s on-site hotels and the theme parks (Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay), as well as CityWalk. They run frequently throughout the day, so you’re never waiting too long for a ride.
Expert Tip: If you’re staying at Endless Summer resorts, the buses are really your only on-site transportation option. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to wait for the bus, ride it, and get to the parks by your preferred time. Also, get to the bus stop earlier than later to make sure you’re able to hop on the next one, especially for early morning entry.
Water Taxis to Universal CityWalk and Theme Parks
Staying at a Signature Collection hotel? These scenic boat rides take you from Hard Rock Hotel Orlando, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific, and Sapphire Falls directly to CityWalk, where you can then walk to the parks. The water taxis are my favorite way to get to the parks because they’re quick and offer a more relaxed, scenic way to get to there with your own, less crowded security entrance. They also drop you off closer to the entrances than the buses do.
Expert Tip: If you’re staying at Aventura Hotel or Cabana Bay, you can walk over to Sapphire Falls to take their boat transportation if you don’t want to walk to the parks or take the shuttles.
Walking Paths Between Parks and Hotels
For those staying at Hard Rock Hotel or Royal Pacific Resort, you’re so close to the parks that you might not even need to use transportation. There are walking paths that will get you to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure in 5-10 minutes. And Aventura has a walking path to Volcano Bay that gets you there in 5-10 minutes as well.
Those aren’t the only resort hotels you can walk from, though. I’ve walked to and/or from the theme parks to from every resort on property except for Endless Summer and they’re all doable, just a little longer.
Expert Tip: Planning to walk a lot during your trip? Don’t forget to pack comfortable shoes! I recommend these Brooks shoes that have made my feet go from being in excruciating pain at the end of the day to much more manageable.
Universal Orlando Resort Transportation: Off-Site Options
Not staying at a Universal hotel? No problem—there are plenty of other ways to get to the resort. Let’s look at some Universal Orlando Resort transportation options for when you’re staying off-site that can still make your trip stress-free.
Ride-Share Services (Uber/Lyft)
If you’re staying off-site, ride-share services like Uber and Lyft are some of the best options for getting to the parks. Universal has designated pick-up and drop-off points that make it easy for you to get from your hotel to the park entrances without any hassle. Make sure to bring a portable phone charger so you don’t run out of battery before your ride is called!
Expert Tip: Keep in mind that prices for ride-share services can fluctuate, especially during peak times. Your trip will likely be more expensive when the park first opens in the morning and when they close at the end of the night. You may also end up waiting longer for a ride during these times as well.
Rental Car or Personal Vehicle
If you’ve got your own car, parking at Universal is always an option, especially if you’re planning on seeing other sights around Orlando. But, fair warning—it can get expensive. General parking at Universal Orlando is around $30 per day, and that doesn’t include the long walk from the parking garage to the park entrances. Parking spots closer to the entrance are available, as is valet parking, but they tend to be more expensive.
Expert Tip: If you’re looking to rent a car for your next vacation to Universal Orlando, be sure to mention that to me when you reach out to begin planning your trip. I can help you get the rental car process started and have you ready to go when you reach Orlando.
Public Transportation and Off-Site Hotel Buses
There are local bus routes that serve Universal Orlando Resort. There are also hotels nearby Universal Orlando that offer transportation, sometimes for free, sometimes for a fee. It’s a budget-friendly option, though it might take a bit longer than other methods. If you’re an adventurous traveler looking to save some money, this Universal Orlando Resort transportation option could be the way to go.

Choosing the Best Universal Orlando Resort Transportation For You
The best Universal Orlando Resort transportation option for you will depend on your budget, travel style, and group size. If you’re on a tight budget, public transportation or rideshare services may be the best option. If you’re traveling with a large group, renting a car may be the most convenient way to get around. And if you want to have a relaxing vacation, on-site transportation is a great choice.
Here are a few more expert tips to make sure your transportation experience is as smooth as possible:
- Plan Your Routes in Advance: Know which transportation options are available from your hotel to the parks. If you’re using off-site hotel shuttles, find out the schedule and book ahead of time so you’re not waiting around. If you’re planning to use a ride-share service or rent a car, it’s a good idea to book your transportation in advance, especially if you’re traveling during peak times.
- Use Peak and Off-Peak Times to Your Advantage: The Universal Orlando Resort transportation systems (especially the Universal shuttles) tend to be busiest right after park opening and closing. Consider heading to the parks a little earlier or staying late to avoid the rush.
- Consider parking costs: If you’re driving to Universal Orlando, be sure to factor in parking costs. Parking can be expensive, so it may be more cost-effective to use public transportation or a ride-share service.
- Be prepared for crowds: Universal Orlando Resort can get very crowded, especially during peak times. Be prepared for delays and crowds, especially when using public transportation or rideshare services.
- Don’t forget to pack the essentials: No matter which Universal Orlando Resort transportation option you choose to get around, there are a few essentials that you should pack for your trip. Check out my recommended packing list!
Expert Tip: Keep your things as contained as possible when you’re traveling. This backpack is a great way to bring your essentials to the park without sacrificing comfort.
