Helios Grand Hotel Review: What to Expect from Universal Orlando’s Newest Signature Resort

Helios Grand Hotel seen behind the fountains in Celestial Park at Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort

Have you ever wanted to stay at a hotel that’s literally built into a theme park? At Helios Grand Hotel, you can walk out the door, stroll down a short path, and be standing inside Universal Epic Universe in under a minute. As a longtime theme park fan and Universal Orlando Annual Passholder, this was easily one of the most surreal and exciting hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

Below is my full Universal Helios Grand Hotel review, covering its location, rooms, dining, pools, perks, and who this hotel is best for.

Location: Unbeatable Access to Epic Universe

The location of Helios Grand Hotel is one of its biggest selling points.

This is the closest hotel Universal has ever built to a theme park. The hotel is part of the Epic Universe footprint, towering over Celestial Park and giving you some of the most jaw-dropping theme park views you can get from a resort room.

Private Entrance to Epic Universe

Just off the lobby, you’ll find a dedicated guest-only security checkpoint. Scan your ticket or pass, walk down the path, and boom – you’re in Epic Universe in under a minute. It doesn’t get more convenient than that, especially if you’re planning to use Early Park Admission.

Less Convenient for the Other Parks

If your visit includes Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, or Volcano Bay, plan on using bus transportation. Travel time generally varies between 15–20 minutes depending on traffic and driver routes.

You’ll also go through the main CityWalk security checkpoint for Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida and the main security checkpoint for Volcano Bay – no private entrances like Hard Rock Hotel or Cabana Bay provide.

No Airport Transportation

Universal does not include complimentary airport service. You’ll need to pay for the Superstar Shuttle or arrange your own transportation.

If Epic Universe is your priority, the location is unbeatable. But if you plan to spend most of your time at the other parks, a different hotel may offer more convenience.

Rooms and Accommodations: Stylish, Modern, and Park-View Options

Walking into Helios Grand Hotel feels like stepping into a Mediterranean palace. Soft lighting, ornate floral details, beautiful stone accents, and warm colors set an elevated, elegant tone from the moment you check in.

Room Size and Layout

Standard rooms here are comparable to Royal Pacific or Sapphire Falls, not as large as Hard Rock or Portofino Bay. They’re modern, comfortable, and packed with smart tech, but not oversized.

The Park View Rooms Are Worth It

I was fortunate to be upgraded (shoutout to Colette at the front desk), and the park view was unbelievable. When you open your curtains and Epic Universe is glowing right outside your window, it’s a moment.

Waking up and seeing the entire park before you even get out of bed is something every theme park fan should experience at least once.

Technology and Comfort

A touchscreen tablet controls your lights, blinds, and more. Outlets are plentiful. Beds are comfortable, though the comforter is on the lighter side. If you prefer something heavier, you can text the hotel to request extra blankets.

The bathroom is split, with sinks separate from the shower and toilet. The layout is convenient, though the bathroom area itself is a bit compact for larger groups.

Overall, the rooms are stylish, modern, quiet, and comfortable; the perfect retreat after a day in the parks.

Dining and Restaurants: Elevated Experiences from Table Service to Rooftop Views

As a Signature Collection hotel, Helios Grand offers elevated dining options with higher-end pricing to match.

Flora Taverna (Table Service)

I tried both breakfast and dinner here, and the food quality was excellent. The breakfast buffet is similar to other Signature resorts but noticeably well-prepared. Omelets are cooked to order, and everything tasted fresh.

Dinner was the real standout, not just for the food, but the setting. Sitting outdoors at night with Epic Universe glowing just steps away is an experience. My pasta dish was flavorful, well-portioned, and something I’d order again.

Bar Helios (Rooftop Lounge)

If you only visit one dining location here, let it be this one. The rooftop overlooks the entire park, and if you time your visit with the nighttime fountain and light show, you get a stunning, elevated view with the show audio piped in.

Cocktails from the specialty menu tend to be adventurous, sometimes very adventurous. If you prefer classics, you can absolutely order something standard from the bar.

Aurora Market (Grab-and-Go)

Convenient, busy in the mornings, and has a great gelato station. Perfect for snacks before heading into Epic Universe.

Pools, Perks, and Amenities: Elegant Pool, Resort Perks, and Convenient Universal Access

No Free Express Pass

One of the biggest surprises for many guests: Helios Grand does not include Express Pass. Universal has said they do not currently plan to add it, meaning Helios will remain in the same perk tier as Sapphire Falls.

The upside? Over time, pricing may settle closer to Sapphire Falls than hotels that include Express Pass, even though this hotel has a Signature atmosphere.

Pool Area

The pool is elegant, relaxing, and very much themed for adults or older guests. There are cabanas, plenty of seating, and a bar. You won’t find water play areas or slides here.

Because the pool borders the back of Monsters Unchained, you’ll see the attraction show building. It’s not ideal for immersion, but not a dealbreaker.

Resort-Wide Perks

As a Universal hotel guest, you receive:

  • Early Park Admission
  • Free resort-wide bus transportation
  • Free package delivery (until 24 hours before checkout)
  • Free access to CityWalk via shuttle

The ability to quickly leave Epic Universe, relax in the hotel, and pop back into the park may be the single most convenient perk of any Universal Orlando resort. That’s what I did on my visit, and I hardly ever go to the hotel room to rest during theme park days!

Pros and Cons of Universal Helios Grand Hotel

Pros

  • The best location of any Universal hotel for Epic Universe
  • Incredible park view rooms with breathtaking day and night views
  • Luxurious theming and décor throughout the resort
  • Excellent dining, including the rooftop Bar Helios experience
  • Quick, dedicated security entrance directly into Epic Universe
  • Smart, modern rooms with upgraded tech features

Cons

  • No Express Pass included
  • Standard rooms are on the smaller side for a Signature Collection resort
  • Bus transportation required for Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, and Volcano Bay
  • Some rooftop drinks may be too experimental (and pricey) for some guests
  • Pool area lacks kid-focused features like slides or splash zones

Overall Impressions of Helios Grand Hotel

Helios Grand Hotel is easily one of my top three Universal Orlando hotels. The atmosphere is incredible, the theming is polished and serene, and the convenience to Epic Universe is unmatched.

I love the dining options, I love the rooms, and I love the views. It genuinely feels like a luxury, theme-park-adjacent palace without feeling stuffy or overwhelming.

Helios Grand Hotel is perfect for theme park fans, Epic Universe–focused travelers, and anyone who values luxury theming, modern tech, and unbeatable convenience with a private entrance into Epic Universe. It’s also a great fit for couples or adults looking for an elegant, relaxing resort experience with elevated dining and stunning views.

However, Helios Grand Hotel isn’t ideal for families seeking kid-focused amenities, guests who rely on Express Pass, or travelers planning to spend most of their time at the other Universal parks. It also may not suit visitors who want larger rooms, simple dining, or a more budget-friendly stay (check out Stella Nova or Terra Luna if you want more budget-friendly resort hotels near Epic Universe).
