Six Flags Over Georgia Opening Weekend 2025: What’s New and What You Can’t Miss

With new rides, upgrades, and food overhauls, it’s tough to know what’s worth your time at Six Flags Over Georgia this season. As a theme park expert with 25+ years of experience, I was there for the Six Flags Over Georgia Opening Weekend 2025 to give you the full scoop. In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know—from the new Georgia Gold Rusher coaster to food upgrades and insider tips—so you can make the most of your visit.

Georgia Gold Rusher: The New Kid on the Block

The star of the weekend? Georgia Gold Rusher, the park’s brand-new roller coaster for 2025. Originally announced as Georgia Surfer in 2024, the ride was delayed and re-themed to fit the historic 19th-century gold rush motif—and it was worth the wait.

I hopped on during the exclusive Season Passholder ride time, and let me tell you, this thing packs a punch. The high-speed launches were surprisingly forceful, giving me more airtime moments than expected, especially over the mid-course hill. The ride’s theming—including a thematic soundtrack instead of pop radio hits—added to the experience, making it feel fresh and fun.

However, the ride’s spinning gondola seating wasn’t fully functional yet. While fun, the experience lacked the chaotic spin you’d expect from a free-spinning coaster. Once they work out the kinks, I can already tell this coaster experience is going to be next-level wild and one of the best at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Old Favorites with Fresh Updates

It’s not just about the new ride—some old favorites got a facelift too, adding to the park’s legacy.

Goliath’s New Paint Job

Six Flags’ iconic hypercoaster, Goliath, now sports a blue and gray color scheme. While it’s taking me a minute to get used to the new look, it definitely pops against the Georgia sky. Unfortunately, Goliath went down before I could take it for a spin, but I’ll be back.

Acrophobia Refresh

Meanwhile, Acrophobia, the park’s terrifying drop tower, is getting a white and red checkerboard paint job, a nod to the aviation-themed ride that once stood in its place. It’s exciting to see Six Flags investing in this ride with a nod to its older attractions.

BATMAN: The Ride’s Special Effects

One of my favorite surprises was the revamped special effects on BATMAN: The Ride. The mist, flashing lights, and atmospheric effects were all working perfectly, making the queue feel fresh and immersive again. It’s awesome to see park enhancements like this, especially for a legacy ride.

Food and Beverage Upgrades: Dee Jay’s Diner & More

The food and beverage game is stepping it up this season, with the park even announcing their first ever park chef!

I grabbed lunch at DJ’s Diner, which has been refreshed with new indoor seating and revamped menu items.

I tried the new chicken tenders and creamy mac & cheese, and let me just say—big improvement. The tenders were crispy and flavorful, and the mac had a little kick of spice that made it stand out from your typical theme park side dish.

Plus, it’s all included with the dining pass—score! This can really come in clutch if you’re traveling with a large family.

Monster Mansion: Still the Park’s Pride and Joy

No visit to Six Flags Over Georgia is complete without a ride on the iconic Monster Mansion. Over the past few years, Six Flags has been enhancing the animatronics and effects on this beloved attraction.

Unfortunately, Monster Mansion broke down mid-day, but I did catch the character meet-and-greet outside. If you’re a fan of this themed attraction, you can snag a photo with them and grab some of the new merch. It’s great to see the park embracing the cult following of this quirky classic.

Guest Experience and Park Policies

I was genuinely impressed with the guest experience this weekend. Employees were friendly and helpful, operations were efficient, and ride wait times were relatively short for opening weekend.

The park’s guest safety measures were visible throughout, with signs alerting guests of the new chaperone policies clearly posted outside the park entrance. Hopefully this is carried on throughout the season, as safety measure are part of what makes me feel safe at theme parks.

Entertainment and Live Shows

While I focused on rides, Six Flags Over Georgia also offers live shows and themed entertainment throughout the park.

The new LED stage screen at on the USA stage adds a cool visual upgrade for future performances. There appeared to be a drumline show happening there, but I didn’t have time to stay and watch it.

I’m excited to see how entertainment and events evolve throughout the 2025 season.

Final Thoughts on Six Flags Over Georgia’s 2025 Opening Weekend

Overall, Six Flags Over Georgia impressed me this opening weekend. The park looked cleaner and better maintained than it has in years. Employees were smiling and helpful, the ride operations were efficient, and the new energy brought by the park upgrades made the whole experience feel fresh.

The merger of Six Flags and Cedar Fair appears to be treating this park well. I hope these positive changes are maintained throughout the season and not just for the first few weekends.
