Orlando, Florida can be considered the theme park capital of the world, which is why figuring out the fastest roller coasters in Orlando can prove to be a bit tricky.

As someone with over 25 years of experience researching, visiting, and working in theme parks, I know that sometimes you just want to find the biggest, fastest thrills. Let’s take a look at what the top 5 fastest roller coasters in Orlando truly are, and then talk about how I can help you make the most of your next trip!

Top 5 Fastest Roller Casters in Orlando, Florida

1. Mako – SeaWorld Orlando – 73 MPH

The fastest roller coaster in Orlando is Mako at SeaWorld Orlando, reaching a top speed of 73 mph. A hypercoaster reaching 200 feet tall, it’s also one of the biggest roller coasters in Florida.

Even though I’ve ridden over 200 roller coasters, this is still one of the best out there with its high speed, large drops, and numerous airtime moments. In fact, it’s my favorite hypercoaster created by the world-famous Bolliger & Mabillard roller coaster designers.

2. Jurassic World VelociCoaster – Universal Islands of Adventure – 70 MPH

While VelociCoaster is the second-fastest roller coaster in Orlando, it’s the fastest launch coaster. With two high-speed launches, four amazing inversions, and Jurassic World theming, it’s a ride that has me wanting more after every single ride.

That final inversion over the water is no joke. It can be fun to watch from the sidelines if you aren’t brave enough to ride quite yet!

3. Incredible Hulk – Universal Islands of Adventure – 67 MPH

This iconic roller coaster is themed to, you guessed it, Marvel’s Incredible Hulk. With a powerful uphill launch straight into an inversion and numerous other upside-down moments, it’s nonstop thrills and intensity from start to finish.

That uphill launch is still one of the most intense experiences I’ve ever encountered on a roller coaster. Definitely a way to jump-start your morning after getting to the park from your hotel.

4 (tie). Kraken – SeaWorld Orlando – 65 MPH

One of the first floorless roller coasters and SeaWorld Orlando’s first major thrill ride, Kraken is still going strong since its opening in 2000. With seven inversions, it remains one of SeaWorld Orlando’s top thrill rides.

It may not be one of the five fastest roller coasters in Florida, but it still makes the list of fastest roller coasters in Orlando! Consider using SeaWorld Orlando’s Quick Queue system to shorten wait times on busy days.

4 (tie). Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit – Universal Studios Florida – 65 MPH

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit may currently be on this list, but Universal Orlando has announced this ride will be closing in September 2025.

But currently, it’s still one of the fastest roller coasters in Orlando. It’s got a vertical lift hill and an option to let you pick your own music while you ride – I highly recommend Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”.

Honorable Mention: Stardust Racers – Universal Epic Universe – 62 MPH

Not even open at the time this article was originally published, Stardust Racers will be the newest large roller coaster at the Universal Orlando Resort, and one of Orlando’s fastest!

Opening with Universal Epic Universe in May 2025, Stardust Racers will be a duel-racing roller coaster with two launches, inversions, and airtime hills. The biggest and fastest ride at Epic Universe, it will be sure to have long lines, so make sure to head to the Celestial Park area in the center of the park to check it out.

I can’t wait to ride both tracks on this coaster and see how they compare to each other and other coasters around Orlando and the world!

Why Does Speed Matter on a Roller Coaster?

Speed can give you that extra adrenaline rush you’re craving. What’s more thrilling, a bike ride through a park or a roller coaster speeding through inversions at 70 mph?

But speed isn’t the only thing that makes a great roller coaster. Speed combined with elements like inversions, drops, launches, and immersive theming are used to create an unforgettable experience.

Some of the top five fastest roller coasters in Orlando may not even be towards the top in people’s lists of favorite roller coasters, and that’s ok. Lots of things go into making a great ride great.

Tips for Conquering The Fastest Roller Coasters in Orlando

Because these are some of the fastest rides in Orlando, they tend to draw large crowds to them. Services like Universal’s Express Pass or SeaWorld Orlando’s Quick Queue can help shorten wait times if you don’t want to spend all day queueing for these speed demons or have a large family with people who hate waiting in lines.

Additionally, timing can be very important when planning to ride these coasters. Certain days, like weekends, will tend to be busier than others. Certain times of day may be busier too depending on when you visit.

Make sure to research ideal visiting times for the parks where these roller coasters are located.
